Commemoration of St. Eleutherius, Pope and Martyr
On weekdays without their own proper, the Mass takes the Sunday’s prayers.
I again inflict my singing on you for most of this project. Quite a while back I started a PRAYERCAzT series, wherein I read and/or sang the prayers and readings for upcoming Sundays and Feasts for the Extraordinary Form. I meant to be helpful to men who were faced with singing the texts and who were, perhaps, not so familiar…

At the end of Holy Mass this morning I noted the simple but weighty rubric: Post Missam expirat tempus paschale. We have come back around to the Tempus per annum. But we don’t go green quite yet. Sunday is Trinity Sunday, that day many well-read and well-catechized Catholics dread for the absurdities they hear from the pulpit.

If priests who are learning to say the older form of Holy Mass can get these prayers in their ears, they will…

Deus, qui fideles tibi servos sanctitatis gloria sublimare non desistis, concede propitius, ut illo nos igne Spiritus Sanctus inflammet, quo beati Philippi cor mirabiliter penetravit.O God, who by the glory of sanctity do not cease not to raise on high servants faithful to You, propitiously grant, that the Holy Spirit inflame us with that same fire with which He wondrously entered into Saint Philip’s heart.
Did you know that St. Philip Neri is a co-patron of Rome? Sublimo, according to the thorough Lewis & Short Dictionary, is “to lift up on high, to raise, elevate”. Penetro is, in the first place, “to put, place, or set any thing into any thing”. You might use this verb to describe a person putting his foot inside a…

Proficiat nobis ad salutem corporis et animae, Domine Deus noster, huius sacramenti susceptio, et sempiternae sanctae Trinitatis eiusdemque individuae Unitatis confessio.May the reception of this sacrament, O Lord our God, and also the confession of our faith in the holy everlasting Trinity and of the undivided Unity of the same, profit us for the salvation of body and soul.
At some point we wind up taking a stab at explaining the Trinity to someone. Results vary.
