WDTPRS – – 17th Sunday after Pentecost – Diabolical Contagion

Da, quaesumus, Domine, populo tuo diabolica vitare contagia: et te solum Deum pura mente sectari.
Literal rendering

Grant, O Lord, unto Your people, to shun diabolical contamination: and with a pure soul to follow You, the only God.

Is this prayer appropriate today or what?!? It seems to me that we can see what we are praying against at nearly every level of the Church today. Some are witless about it, others are witting. Among the witting, some are unwilling and others most willing.

Our Lady of Sorrows

Commentary for this day

CollectFeb 28, 2006

28 (27) Feb: St. Gabriel of Our Lady of Sorrows

Deus, qui beatum Gabrielem dulcissimae Matris tuae dolores assidue recolere docuisti, ac per illam sanctitatis et miraculorum gloria sublimasti: da nobis, eius intercessione et exemplo; ita Genetricis tuae consociari fletibus, ut materna eiusdem protectione salvemur.
Literal rendering

O God, who taught blessed Gabriel to reflect constantly upon the sorrows of Your most sweet Mother, and through her raised him on high by the glory of holiness and miracles: grant us, by his intercession and example; so to be joined to the tears of Your Mother, that we may be saved by her maternal protection.

Yesterday was the feast of St. Gabriel of Our Lady of Sorrows according to the calendar of the Novus Ordo, however, in the older, so-called "Tridentine" Missal we find that either 27 or 28 February was given to him. His date is most properly 27 February since that is the day he died and was born into heaven in 1862.…

From 24th Sunday of Ordinary Time

On weekdays without their own proper, the Mass takes the Sunday’s prayers.

CollectSep 11, 2021

WDTPRS – 24th Ordinary Sunday: Does it really make a difference to offer prayers to God?

Respice nos, rerum omnium Deus creator et rector, et, ut tuae propitiationis sentiamus effectum, toto nos tribue tibi corde servire.
Literal rendering

Be mindful of us, O God, creator and ruler of all things, and, in order that we may sense the effect of Your act of atonement, allow us to serve You with our whole heart.

Given The Present Crisis™ – exacerbated by the antics of Francis with Traditionis custodes and the manifest incompetence and faithlessness of Biden – and the call, often taken up now, for prayer and more prayer, we might consider: Does it really make a difference to offer prayers to God?

24th Sunday of Ordinary Time: POST COMMUNION (1)

Mentes nostras et corpora possideat, quaesumus, Domine, doni caelestis operatio, ut non noster sensus in nobis, sed eius praeveniat semper effectus.
Literal rendering

May the religious work of bringing the offering of the heavenly gift, we beseech, O Lord, possess our minds and bodies, so that its effect and not our common inclination have precedence within us. The vocabulary of our prayer today is very dense, and so our English translation will suffer if we try to come up with one-to-one equivalents for the Latin elements. For example, the word sensus has great weight. It means more than simply “sense”. Even in a non-theological source such as the preferred Latin Dictionary of fame we find that sensus carries meaning beyond what we might perceive by the five physical senses of the body or by the perceiving powers of the mind. It points to…

What Does the Prayer Really Say? Exaltation of the Cross (24th Sunday of Ordinary Time) ORIGINALLY PRINTED IN The Wanderer in 2003 Again the ubiquitous Rome correspondent of the left-leaning National Catholic Reporter, Mr. John L. Allen, Jr., writes in his “The Word From Rome” column of 29 August 2003 that the Congregation for Divine Worship and Discipline of the…
